Affiliations and Certifications

Associated Builders and Contractors; Massachusetts and Rhode Island Chapters

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national association with 77 chapters representing 25,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms with two million employees. ABC's membership represents all specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors of the industry. Piping Systems is a member of both the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Chapters.


National Fire Protection Association

The mission of the international nonprofit NFPA, established in 1896, is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus  codes and standards, research, training and education.  The world's leading advocate of fire prevention and an authoritative source on public safety, NFPA develops, publishes, and disseminates more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks.  Piping Systems, Inc. is a proud member of the NFPA.


AFSA

The American Fire Sprinkler Association, (AFSA) is a non-profit, international association representing open shop fire sprinkler contractors, dedicated to the educational advancement of its members and promotion of the use of automatic fire sprinkler systems. AFSA was organized in 1981 to provide the open shop fire sprinkler contractor with training, consulting, communication, representation and many more services, all of which have expanded over its existence. Membership is open to contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, designers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction. Currently, AFSA represents approximately 750 companies and individuals in the United States and throughout the world. AFSA believes that the installation of fire sprinklers could save thousands of lives and billions of dollars lost to fire each year. Increasingly, public officials are realizing this.

AFSA acts as a liaison with other national associations involved in fire safety. Working together with government agencies, such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the National Fire Protection Association, the Residential Fire Safety Institute, and the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, AFSA helps to create an awareness on the dangers of fire.  Piping Systems, Inc. has been an AFSA member since:  2004.


WBENC

The Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), founded in 1997, is the largest third-party certifier of businesses owned controlled, and operated by women in the United States. WBENC, a national 501(c)(3) non-profit, partners with 14 Regional Partner Organizations to provide its national standard of certification to women-owned businesses throughout the country. WBENC  is also the nation's leading advocate of women-owned businesses as suppliers to America's corporations.  After undergoing a rigorous per-certification application process, Piping Systems Inc. has been WBENC certified since 2004.


SOMWBA

Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance (SOMWBA) State Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance (SOMWBA) certified, Massachusetts.

Piping Systems, Inc. has been certified as a woman-owned business enterprise (WBE) in the following categories:  Commercial and Industrial Piping including Steam, Air, Water, High-Pressure Boiler Installations; Repairs and Alterations of High-Pressure Vessels, Holder of ASME Certified S, U and PP Stamp, and Holder of National Board R Stamp since 2005.


Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE)

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers was established in 1950 and incorporated as an independent organization in 1971. It is the professional society representing those practicing the field of fire protection engineering. The Society has over 4000 members in the United States and abroad, and over 60 regional chapters.  Piping Systems maintains a membership in this organization


DCAM

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management certifies companies to perform public construction projects in Massachusetts and certification with this agency is a state requirement.  Piping Systems, Inc. has been certified to perform work in the Commonwealth under the following categories of work:  Fire Protection Sprinkler Systems, HVAC, Mechanical Systems and Plumbing.  Financial stability, a strong bonding program, satisfactory or better customer references and demonstration of ability to perform the classifications of work in a quality manner are all requirements to maintain a Certificate of Eligibility with the Commonwealth.


Gould Construction Institute

The mission of GCI is to provide high-quality training that prepares individuals for gainful employment and long- term opportunities in the construction industry.  Piping Systems, Inc. enrolls their apprentices in the Gould Construction Institute.


STEP - A Merit-Based Program for the Merit Shop! 

Established in 1989 by the ABC National Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Committee, the Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program was developed and written by contractors, for contractors.  It provides the following benefits:

  • Provides an organized approach to analyze and further develop safety and loss prevention programs
  • Provides a valid, objective method to measure safety program improvements

Piping Systems, Inc. has attained the GOLD Step award and continues to strive to maintain a safe working environment.


Registered Apprenticeship Program

Piping Systems, Inc. maintains a state-approved apprenticeship program registered with the Massachusetts Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Apprenticeship Training.
