Fall is a popular time of the year, and getting into fall decorations and activities in an office is a great way to add something different and seasonal. While some offices may choose to go all out with fall decorations and fall-themed events, some may wish to save their celebration for Halloween or Thanksgiving.
The colors that come to mind for the fall season are golds, yellows, oranges, and reds, and they look great with any other color combination. To create simple fall-themed decorations throughout the office, consider a dried flower arrangement in the reception area and on conference tables and break tables that use these colors.
Mums are also considered a fall flower, and they are great for both indoor and outdoor potted plants as the weather turns a bit cooler. The great thing about these plants is that they bloom for weeks and have very limited maintenance needs. They also grow well indoors and make a bright addition to your lobby or office entrance.
Using the theme of falling leaves around bulletin boards and announcement boards is also an easy way to add a dash of fall colors. Look for pre-made leaves in cardboard at an office supply or craft store and use them year after year. There are also some cute small and large Terra Cotta or ceramic pumpkIns.
Perhaps visit the local farmer’s market and get some real pumpkins, decorative squash, gourds, and ornamental corn. These can be combined on tables and desks to add an environmentally-friendly look to any office space.
Some offices go all out for Halloween, with everyone dressing up and decorating their work area. Other offices may choose a more subdued approach, but there are still a lot of fun things to do.
If your office has the space, consider a pumpkin carving contest. The office can supply the pumpkins, and a few days before Halloween people can carve their Jack O’ Lantern and it can be on display. Visitors to the office can vote on the best one, with a prize awarded to the winning entry.
Staff candy exchanges are fun as well. Everyone can decorate a Halloween treat bag and hang in on the back of their chair or tape it to the top of their desk or work area. On Halloween, everyone can go around to the desks in the office and leave a candy, baked good or a fun Halloween novelty.
Traditional Halloween parties are always fun. Encourage everyone to dress up, or perhaps choose a theme and spend the day in costume. Choose delivery from a local deli or restaurant offering a Halloween themed meal.
To give back to the community, consider organizing and planning a trunk or treat in the building parking lot. Small offices can work together, providing a fun and safe way for kids in the community to get in some early trick or treating after school on Halloween day. Social media is a great way to spread the word and to promote the event.
